Fitting Item

Section Code

Size (Dimensional)

Grade (As Shaft)

Use the Section Code, Size and Grade fields to define the fitting.

There are also two check boxes that affect the behaviour of the fitting:

§               Size: Dimensional check box
This is available if you select a non-linear section code. When you select the check box, the Fitting Thickness settings become available. This means that you can  scale the thickness of the fitting based on the dimensions of the member to which it is applied. You must still populate the Size field, however, which acts as a last resort. *** why do I need to choose a size?

§               Grade: As Shaft check box
This allows you to vary the grade of the fitting depending on the main member. If you select the check box, when the fitting is applied to an estimate; it inherits the grade from the member to which it is applied. You must still populate the Grade field; the specified grade is applied only if the member's grade does not exist in the items library.

Dimensions grid

You can specify the dimensions of the fitting based on the dimensions of the main member to which it is applied or you can enter fixed sizes for it.

When you select a section code and size, parts of the Dimensions grid become available depending on which section code and size you selected:

§               If the item is a linear section, then only the Fitting Length area is available.

§               If the item is a non-linear section, then the Fitting Width and Fitting Length areas are available.

§               If the item is a non-linear section and the Size: Dimensional check box is selected, then all three areas (Fitting Width, Fitting Thickness and Fitting Length) are available.

The Dimensions grid is best explained by taking examples. See Dimensions grid examples.
