You can cross reference item names from external systems with the STRUMIS
item names to make sure referenced names are recognised if they occur
again on an import. This is also carried out in a similar way with
Grades in the Grade
Library. If a material list lists an item in a different format
to the STRUMIS naming convention, the cross reference will tell the system
which item to use.
For example, an external material lists includes the item UB_254_146_31_S275JR,
which is essentially what the system knows to be 254X146X31UB-S275JR.
Entering UB_254_146_31_S275JR in the Cross Reference tab for this item
tells the system what to use when you import the external file.
The cross references are stored in two ways:
Manually entering the reference in the available fields in the Cross Reference tab of an item from the Item Library, identifying the source of the cross reference and noting the package or supplier associated with the reference.

Entering the cross reference against an item during a model import from an external detailing package and then accepting the option to Persist Cross References. This will store the cross reference in this location against the related item which has been identified during the import. Cross References will need to be placed against the name of unrecognizable items.
