Unrecognised and invalid prelim marks

The Import Prelim Wizard - Item Listing screen shows any unrecognised or invalid Prelim Marks. If you want to use these in your preliminary list, you need to address the reasons for the unrecognised or invalid status. The marks could simply have been named in a different way to that of the cross reference currently in STRUMIS or perhaps the item does not exist at all and needs to be added.

Unrecognised prelim marks

These are prelim marks in the import file that are not recognised by STRUMIS. This means that the system cannot match the item in the import file with an item in the STRUMIS Item Library. There are several ways to remedy this:

§               With the Unrecognised Marks tab open and the import as Item column in view, use the Item Picker to manually map the unrecognised prelim mark to an item in the item library. Take a look at the illustration below:

Steel Item Picker

Begin picking a steel item to reference by choosing the section code from the drop down list, then the size of the mark and lastly the grade. Using this form, it is possible  change the original item to have different properties such as a higher grade of steel. If persist cross references is chosen when the import is complete, then the changes will be remembered against the original part in the item library references.

Non Steel Item Picker

Non steel items to be imported may also not be recognised due to variations in the naming conventions. To reference and import a non steel item, use the item picker and select the non steel items tab. This will display a drop down menu that contains all non steel items in the library. Using the binoculars icon will open up a secondary search form.

.

Field

Description

ID

If you know the specific ID of the non steel item as seen in the Items Library then you can search using this option.

Item Name

Search for non steel items from the Items Library using the name of the item. Special characters can be used to widen the search. An example would be looking for all bolts in the library using the search term *bolt*.

Class

If the non steel item has been assigned a class in the Items Library this can be used to narrow the scope of the search.

Group

If the non steel item has been assigned a group in the Item Library this can be used to narrow the scope of the search.

Max Rows

To show the maximum number of records returned for your search set the value to 0.

Grid

With the value set to 0 in Max Rows the grid will display all non steel items in the Items Library. The grid can be filtered and sorted using Grid Options.

Grid Options

The standard range of tools are available in Grid Options See Work with Grids for more information..

Click the Revalidate Marks button when you have mapped the unrecognised Prelim Marks. The newly mapped Prelim Marks are now listed in the Valid Marks column.

§               If there are Prelim Marks that do not have an available cross reference, or you do not wish to use them in the Prelim Listing, you can choose to ignore the unrecognised Prelim Marks. This will mean that none of the items in the Unrecognised Marks tab will be imported into the listing. To do this, select the check box in the Ignore column. You can use the Check/Uncheck button to select or clear the check box in multiple highlighted rows as shown in the illustration below:

When you complete the import, go to the Item Library and define the steel or non-steel item. You can then re-import the CAD file.

§               You can click the New Item button to access the item library from within the Import Prelim Wizard. A new Item form will be displayed to allow you to create a new entry in the Item Library. Define the steel or non-steel item, close the Item Library and Revalidate the Prelim Marks. Revalidating will ask the wizard to look back to the Item Library to establish if any further connections have been made between the Prelim Marks and the list of cross references available. For more information on adding new items to the library, see Create an Item.

§               You can use information from the import file to create steel or nonsteel items in the Item Library. To do this, click the down arrow to the right of the New Item button (as shown below) and select Create Unrecognised Items. To allow access to this funciton, you will need to have one or more records selected in the Unrecognised Marks grid.

The Create Unrecognised Items form is displayed. The grid contains details about the selected Unrecognised Items from the CAD file.

Field

Description

Ignore

If you select the check box to ignore a line in the grid this record will not be added to the Items Library.

Section Type

Grade

Enter the new item's section type and grade as it will appear in the Items Library. If the chosen section type does not have a grade available, then the grade field will not be active. For example, if the item to be imported is a cold rolled item then there will be no grade available.

Custom Girder Properties

If the chosen Section Type is registered in the Items Library as a Custom Girder, then these additional properties will be opened up on this form.

Grid Options

The standard range of tools are available in Grid Options See Work with Grids for more information..

Check/ Uncheck

If you have selected multiple records to ignore, the Check/ Uncheck function will allow you to toggle the selected records on and off.

Batch Update

With one or more records selected in the grid, the Batch Update gives you the tools to update multiple records with the same information at the same time. All the fields that are available in the grid are also available in the Batch Update form. There is also the option to Update only the Selected Rows or all records with the new information.

Click OK on this form to create the items in the Item Library. You can now revalidate the Prelim Marks.

§               As an alternative to adding new items from the wizard, you can cancel the wizard, add the unrecognised item to the Item Library and re-start the wizard.

If you decide halfway through validating marks that you would like to leave the wizard to add items to the Items Library, then close it without Persisting Cross References, you will loose any positive references you may have already made.

If you have already made significant progress through the validation process, complete the wizard to import the new items to the Prelim Listing, Go to the Items Library to add  all your items, delete the Prelim Listing and then launch the wizard again to run through the process once more.

Invalid prelim marks

An invalid Prelim Mark is most likely caused by part of the Assembly being an Unrecognised Item. If there are no Unrecognised Items then it can be triggered if the Prelim Mark is not unique. These items may need to be altered to become valid.

Prelim marks with invalid dimensions

This status signifies that the dimensions of one of the Prelim Marks do not match. You can either re-size the offending dimension or Re-Mark it. If you change the dimensions of a Mark you can check that they are valid by clicking the Revalidate Marks button.

If all of your marks appear as invalid dimensions it most likely because they are not Prelim marked. Use the Marking facility to assign identifiers.
